Padmaavat is a 2018 Indian historical drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and based on the epic poem of the same name by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The film stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen known for her beauty and courage, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, her husband and the king of Chittor, and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the Sultan of Delhi who becomes obsessed with Padmavati and invades her kingdom.
